Grandma Patsy Burr currently resides in St. Albans, West Virginia, and attends Capitol City Baptist Church there with her son, Bill, and his Wife, Cindy. When she can Grandma Burr will play the piano either as a solo here or she will even play sometimes for the congregational singing.
Not only the best piano player I have ever known, but one of the best Christians you will ever meet.
My favorite piano player of all time if Grandma Burr! Nobody can do it like her, and she plays everything from what I understand by ear. Here is a few minutes of her using her talent for God's glory!
This was the last time Bro. Bill sung in church. He had been having health issues and it was starting to take its toll on him. However, he and he alone had a standing invitation from the then pastor of his church that if he were to ever have enough energy and gumption to sing one more time he had full permission to come and do so at any point of his choosing; even if it were to be right in the middle of a sermon.
If at any point Bro. Bill were to choose to begin the walk towards the stage the invitation was that everything else currently happening would cease immediately and all attention would be directed to Bro. Bill and he would be able to sing.
During a Sunday evening service on October 28, 2007 such an invitation was accepted by Dr. Bill Burr as he made his way from his seat and climbed the steps of the stage and sung, I'm On The Winning Side one final time.
There is a point in the video in which he looks up and around at the crowd and I firmly believe down deep in his soul he knew the Lord was giving him this one last time to do what he loved and he was soaking it all in.
The sermon was put on hold and he sung his heart out for everyone there. The excitement, the appreciation, and the respect for this man of God was abundant and obvious. Bill Burr was rewarded by God for all of his years of service with this last time to stand and sing and have everyone appreciate the great talent he had and used so often.
This video also has some clips of the service that night including the absolutely fantastic choir song at the beginning that was so great that they ended up doing it twice. You can even hear if you listen close, Bro. Bill shouting with excitement in the background.
As detailed from those in attendance that night, there was a special spirit in the air and everyone could just sense the Holy Spirit was going to do something special, AND HE DID!
Bill Burr loved to cut up and tell jokes. This was one of his most famous sayings when he didn't think you enjoyed something as much as you should have. He loved to have a great time!
