Dr. Bill Burr
December 23, 1935 - June 28, 2008
This was the last time Bro. Bill sung in church. He had been having health issues and it was starting to take its toll on him. However, he and he alone had a standing invitation from the then pastor of his church that if he were to ever have enough energy and gumption to sing one more time he had full permission to come and do so at any point of his choosing; even if it were to be right in the middle of a sermon.
If at any point Bro. Bill were to choose to begin the walk towards the stage the invitation was that everything else currently happening would cease immediately and all attention would be directed to Bro. Bill and he would be able to sing.
During a Sunday evening service on October 28, 2007 such an invitation was accepted by Dr. Bill Burr as he made his way from his seat and climbed the steps of the stage and sung, I'm On The Winning Side one final time.
There is a point in the video in which he looks up and around at the crowd and I firmly believe down deep in his soul he knew the Lord was giving him this one last time to do what he loved and he was soaking it all in.
The sermon was put on hold and he sung his heart out for everyone there. The excitement, the appreciation, and the respect for this man of God was abundant and obvious. Bill Burr was rewarded by God for all of his years of service with this last time to stand and sing and have everyone appreciate the great talent he had and used so often.
This video also has some clips of the service that night including the absolutely fantastic choir song at the beginning that was so great that they ended up doing it twice. You can even hear if you listen close, Bro. Bill shouting with excitement in the background.
As detailed from those in attendance that night, there was a special spirit in the air and everyone could just sense the Holy Spirit was going to do something special, AND HE DID!
Bill Burr loved to cut up and tell jokes. This was one of his most famous sayings when he didn't think you enjoyed something as much as you should have. He loved to have a great time!
This Pastor's School in 1997 was just shortly after Bro. Burr had some surgery and he was back at it doing what he loves; and that is singing to God's glory!
In this video he sings one of his favorite songs, It's Real, and in my opinion, nobody can sing it better!
This video should take you through a whole range of emotions from laughing, to crying, and all the way back again. So great to see such two wonderful servants of the Most High God honored in this way. My grandfather was a cut up and loved to tell jokes, laugh, and have a good time; so it is great to see him laughing so hard in this video.
For Grandma Burr (Patsy), it was so great to see her honored in this way. Everything that is said about her in this video is 100% true. She is great in so many ways, and she has always loved and supported my grandfather every step of the way.
They were often referred to as the "Two Love Birds," because of how obvious it was that they just loved each other so much. Great example of a loving, godly marriage for us all. In this same Pastor's School service, Bro. Burr was able to sing a special song for his bride who has always stood by his side and loved him every step of the way.
