In today's post continuing our series on the "5 Solas" we arrive at Sola Scriptura which is translated as: Scripture Alone. This one focuses on the fact that the Bible, the Holy Word of God is all that is needed for what we need to know about salvation from sin, and is also the only standard by which we measure the Christian life.
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6 NASB)
The Reformation was one of the greatest times of the historic Christian faith. For during this time we have a great awakening and return to God's Word as authority in all matters of faith in practice. The Reformation entailed many things but was largely built on what is referred to as the 5 "Solas".
This is an excellent debate on the subjects of election, calvinism, predestination, and then specifically Romans chapter 9. Romans chapter 9 is often one of the most neglected and misinterpreted passages of Scripture due to traditions and systems of thought being forced on it, rather than letting the passage speak for itself and interpreting it normally and consistently the same way we would any other passage.
Christmas may have come and gone for this year, but let's not lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas as we move forward into a new year. The year that we start today, 2017, surely brings with it a new set of blessings and challenges and we must walk in the Spirit and live out our identity in Christ if we are to be prepared daily for what is to come.
