I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel - not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. (Galatians 1:6-7 ESV)
A well-known preacher of the United States was asked to say a few words to a gathering in an open-air meeting. At the close of his address, an atheist stepped up to him and challenged him to a debate, assuring him that he would bear all the expense of renting the hall and advertising. The preacher said, "I accept on one condition: When you bring with you fifty people who have been helped by your philosophy, I am ready because I will bring you hundreds who will testify to the transformation this Gospel has wrought in their lives." Needless to say, the challenger departed and never returned.

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, 'I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' (Acts 13:21-22 ESV)

I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison. (Colossians 4:2-3 ESV)
There is a story about a man who encountered a great deal of trouble while flying his little airplane. He called the control tower and said, “Pilot to tower, I am 300 miles from the airport, six hundred feet above the ground, and I am out of fuel. I am descending rapidly. Please advise. Over.” The control tower responded, “Tower to pilot. Please repeat after me, ‘Our Father, Who art in heaven...’”
Sometimes in life, prayer will be all you have or all you have left but in reality, prayer should be our first choice and not our last resort. A healthy prayer life requires devotion. I want to take a look at some of the aspects of the devotion that is required.
