"Behold, the days are coming," declares the Lord God, "when I will send a famine on the land - not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it."
I believe you are seeing this exact description play out in our day as it has in other days. For far too long our churches in America have rejected the plain and expositional teaching of the true Word of God and have heaped themselves to things they want to hear.
We have turned our "churches" into country clubs and social clubs and businesses that are far more concerned with profit and rewarding the largest givers than we have been about holiness and righteousness and biblical submission.
Now, I fear that in a time when we so desperately need God's Word in our lives and in our churches, we may see the fruit of our decades-long rejection come to full harvest. I pray that we will repent and seek the Lord and pray that the spiritual drought of Amos' day which we also find in our day will reverse course and we will see true revival and repentance.
And, this part may surprise you, but I do not want "old-school," pack them in the pews and say we have "revival." I don't want something that will flame out after a few weeks. I want God's people, who are the only ones capable of revival since they have actually been raised to spiritual life, to be revived and truly seek righteousness.
Then, and only then, will we be ready to evangelize the lost, make disciples, and see God's glory and grace in our lives and in our churches.
Revival won't come by seeking tradition, it won't come by "doing things the way we have always done it," it won't come by having more money or better facilities, and it won't even come (and this one pains me as an online ministry guy) by having more online ministry offerings. It will only come by true repentance and a true desire and hunger and thirst for God and His Word and for true sanctification in ourselves and in those we locally gather with to worship.
If you attend a local church that is not submitted to Scripture, now is the time to stand up and make true God-honoring change by removing any obstacle that keeps you from walking with Christ. If you have anything in your life that is keeping you from walking with Christ, remove it, and walk with Him.
There is no tomorrow to wait for. The time is now. I don't care what is going on in the world, the Word of God and Christ's commands have not changed. We need to stop making excuses and start chasing truth and do not let it go!
Who will join me on this journey paved by God's grace?
