Dr. R. Jay Waggoner is the Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Willow Spring, North Carolina, and has been there since 1992. Before that, he pastored in Spencer, West Virginia. My wife and I were members of his church for over a decade and only left there in March of 2017 because I was leaving to become a Pastor of a church myself. He has not stopped being my Pastor or mentor though as he has been extremely instrumental in my growth as both a Christian and a Pastor. Honestly, I am a firm believer that every Christian and every young Pastor needs a Jay Waggoner in their life. I am eternally grateful for all that he has done for me.
My ministry partnership really goes back to August of 2016 right after I had launched my own website and ministry called "By His Grace." At that time, the person who had been up-keeping the website for Fellowship Baptist Church was no longer there and I told Pastor Jay that he should let me take a crack at it and the worst-case scenario is that I am no good at it and we have to hire somebody. It was then that my love of building websites and doing online ministry was born. During the span from July 2016 (launch of By His Grace) until September 2016, God sparked a fire in my spirit for both individual online ministry and church online ministry. Both of these areas complement each other to a great degree if done correctly.
As time went on and my skills in these areas grew, I began to take on the audio editing for Jay's sermons. In and around the same time, another treasure to the church, brother Robert Ray was working very hard to get video capabilities for the services. As this became available, I began video editing the sermons as well. Since then, the Lord has used me to help Jay have his own website, become a broadcaster on Sermon Audio, and this has all helped to grow his personal online ministry as well as grow the online ministry for the church he currently serves as Pastor. So, as you can see, Jay's mentoring and guidance and allowing me to step out and try new things was a huge catalyst in me developing my own online ministry.
Another great aspect of this partnership is that he has tracked down many of his tapes from his early days preaching in Spencer, West Virginia. I have been, as time permits, converting these tapes to digital files to broadcast on Sermon Audio. It is a joy for me as one of the young preachers he has mentored, to be able to hear him preach when he was my age.
Jay is one of the best Pastors, mentors, and friends anyone could have and he is a great friend to young preachers like myself. As long as there is the ability in my body, I will continue to work hard to help him as he has helped guide me so often.
So, take some time and check out Jay's website and his online ministry for there is a huge treasure of God-honoring and God-glorifying content from his sermons, his books, and much more!
